Kolkata Meri Jaan

I love my Kolkata. When you love something or someone you not only look at it's good, you should also take part in bad and try to improve it. My bengali friends have always felt that myself being a Punjabi I do not understand the Kolkata sentiments and Bengali culture. Once we had a debate on what does Puja means for Kolkata people. There are instances when we debated on issues related with India and bengal. Here is one such instance where I shouted a lot when somebody told me you can not understand, because you are not a Bengali.

I can't really make out what this means "To understand Puja, you must understand Calcutta. And to understand Calcutta, you must understand the Bengali. It's not easy."

What u people think. U understand and I don't or what ? I think I understand Kolkata much better, than u do. Because I see the system with much lesser biased view that in any case a Bengali would not be able to do.But as I am, I always look at both sides of the moon. I don't mind being happy looking at the brighter side only, but u will appreciate that u can't improve or make any betterment if you ignore the darker side! Running behind money and forgetting your basic culture, ethics and human values is what happening in almost all cities all around the world, Kolkata is different, and we feel proud that we still have those values in us. But it does never mean that we should not improve in infrastructure or not make more money and Kolkata should not go richer in all other ways. What's bad if u look at share market that too after going through two papers ?

I have missed Kolkata in great sense while I was in Mumbai and Arunava is a witness. But what I missed was people, people who care, cooperate and are ready to give their time for your cause. But what I did not want to miss were messy kolkata streets, the strikes and above all the Bam Front (Left Front). I admire that people of Kolkata has a view towards life, religion and society which is much better than other parts of India and the world. But my dear friends good things also lies in others cultures. U can not claim that only Kolkata and Bengalis have good things and others are all bull shit. In some ways I have experienced that Bengalis are most resistant to change. If sth X gives them just enough to pass the day, they will never try anything Y. Bam Front (CPIM Government) is the biggest example and Bengalis can't do business is the other example (don't site three or 4 big names please).

I don't mean to sound harsh in anyway over here, but really want to put forward some exerpts from the darker side. I wish my Kolkata will prosper and change all the bad it has and keep the good things intact. This will make us be proud in a better way on our Kolkata. We will be able to put an example in front of the world and that will be visible. I can't say the world to follow Kolkata which by itself is sitting in a dustbin !!

Anyways guys Pujo is after all Pujo ... Enjoy the City with Soul .

I love my kolkata.
